You may have heard of DRU fires, but did you know they have a history dating back to

1754? On May 17th, over 270 years ago, a group of local entrepreneurs in the Netherlands

signed a contract that authorised the creation of a new blast furnace.

It was this project that marked the creation of ‘De Koninklijke Diepenbrock en Reigers of Ulft’

(or DRU for short!) With this blast furnace, DRU began creating cast iron products, like

kitchen pots, frying pans and even, at one point, car parts.

But it was in the 1900s that the DRU we know today took shape. DRU adapted with rapidly

changing times; with the discovery of natural gas in the Netherlands in the early 1960s, they

shifted their focus to gas fireplaces.

Today, the company produces a wide range of modern DRU gas fires, all with their own

unique designs, flame patterns and installation opportunities. To learn more about classic

DRU fires (and the technology behind them), read along!

What are some of DRU’s classic designs?

1. Freestanding gas stoves

DRU's freestanding gas stoves, such as the celebrated ‘CIRCO’ and ‘TRIO’ models,

are distinctive showstoppers. Designed to capture attention, these appliances are

among DRU’s most imposing.

Their CIRCO fire stands almost a metre tall and features a large viewing window.

Great for homes that value cosy visuals, their freestanding gas stoves can be placed

in various rooms, like lounges and living rooms.

Similarly impressive, DRU’s TRIO model is aptly named with its three-sided log fire

display.

It calls back to earlier wood-burning stove designs but doesn’t compromise on

innovative DRU efficiency (both models mentioned achieve combustion efficiencies

of 80% or higher).

2. Hole-in-the-wall

Looking for a built-in solution?

Perhaps you’re living in a family home where conserving floor space is your top

priority. In which case, DRU’s hole-in-the-wall models are designed to be installed

into a standard chimney with minimal conversion work.

These fires offer a widescreen design with realistic logs and various interior finishes,

such as smooth black, Ceraglass, or stone.

3. Hang-on-the-wall

The perfect go-between for those who can’t decide, DRU’s hang-on-the-wall fires

may be another space-saving solution, but they still command attention.

Models like their ‘DIABLO’ gas fire can be mounted directly onto an outside-facing

wall while still keeping that three-sided viewing aspect. You’ll get a spectacular log

fire display without sacrificing floor space.

4. Panoramic

When two sides just aren’t enough, what about three? DRU's panoramic gas fires

(the Maestro 105/3 Eco Wave comes to mind) give homeowners a three-sided view

of their spectacular display (complete with high, dense flames).

5. Room divider

Lastly, but certainly not least, DRU fires have also expanded into room-dividing

appliances. For example, their Metro 100XTL Eco Wave is a luxury three-sided

frameless gas fire that serves as a cross between a tunnel and a corner fire.

Designed as a room divider, it can be viewed from both sides. These fires would

make an excellent addition for homeowners who want an architectural feature to

separate dining rooms from living rooms or kitchens from conservatories.

What are the benefits of buying a DRU gas fire?

So, aside from their obvious aesthetic value, what’s going on inside a DRU stove?

1. High energy efficiency

As a customer-centric company, DRU designs their gas fires with buyers in mind.

That’s why each product is designed to maximise heat output while minimising

energy consumption. Many of their models achieve efficiency ratings of up to 90%,

with minimal heat loss through the flue.

Use their products to keep warm during winter, and you could stand to save on utility

bills.

2. Eco-friendly

Everyone wants to keep their carbon footprint low, and DRU gas fires offer a cleaner

alternative to traditional wood-burning stoves.

By producing fewer emissions (and being fuelled by sustainable options like biogas),

they help reduce our reliance on fossil fuels.

That’s without mentioning their Eco Wave technology, which allows users to optimise

energy usage by controlling flame patterns and heat output.

3. Flame patterns

Speaking of flames, one of the standout features of DRU gas fires is their Dynamic

Flame Burner® technology.

With the integrated Eco Wave system, users can adjust the flame intensity and

pattern to suit their mood, all controlled via a smartphone or tablet. You can enjoy a

quiet evening in front of the fire or impress your guests!

4. Heat output

If you’re worried your lounge is too compact or spacious, don’t worry. DRU’s gas fires

come in a range of heat outputs. From 1–2kW all the way up to 12kW, homeowners

have plenty of options.

Why choose a gas fire for your home?

When compared to models from the 80s and 90s, modern gas fires represent a massive

leap in manufacturing know-how.

DRU is one of many brands that have taken the technological lead, inventing, producing,

and distributing gas-powered fires to homes worldwide. Once you’ve picked a model, all

that’s left is to install it where you need it.

Then, you can enjoy radiant heat all year round!
