Why Should We Rest Our Minds

Updated: Mar 21, 2020

Do you ever find your self exhausted even after sitting and resting for a while?

We have such busy lives and it has made me take a step back and really take a look at how I rest.

I think for a long time I thought that if I sat down for an hour, I had had a rest. But during that hour I would answer emails and complete tasks on my iPad and then jump up and get on with the day not feeling really rested at all.

Then it began to dawn on me that resting isn’t just about sitting or laying down necessary, because that is resting just your body. And we also just importantly need to rest our minds.

Resting our minds is as simple as doing anything you enjoy really. Something you can get lost in, forget about the pressures of life for a while. This can be done in so many wonderful ways, from mindfulness and meditation to knitting, crafting or even running, and exercise.

As long as your mind can just get lost for a while and leave behind the to do lists and let go of all the cares and worries, it surprising how refreshing it can be.

We are always being told to eat well and take exercise to stay fit and healthy, but what about our minds and taking care of our mental health?

Well that’s where resting your mind comes in. Finding something that relaxes your mind, where you can truly temporarily just switch off and rejuvenate.

For me it’s gardening or country walks with the dogs.

What do you do you rest your mind?
